Summer Storage

Summer Storage, 12 x 12

So what's your vote? The foreground in this one, or yesterday's post? I'm somewhat ambivalent, though I might actually prefer my initial attempt.......

I should have found a way to do some fireworks--hopefully you all were able to see some great ones tonight.  We had a fantastic evening, and the fireworks here in Austin were amazing. Happy Fourth!

I like them both but I think I like the golden colors in the foreground better...not sure! Your greens are really looking nice lately!

My vote is for this one. Seems to me that the barn is the focal point and the yellow in yesterday's post seems to take the focus away from there and is too distracting to the overall composition. I really like the simplicity of your paintings. Nice rich color and very well thought-out brush strokes.

My vote is for yesterday's post. I like the yellows and I like the foreground shadow breaking up the negative space.

Thanks for showing the progression! While both are great, I prefer the first solution. The color and value of the horizontal plane seem to agree more with the clear sky and shadows. (Maybe it was the evenness of the foreground shadow in the original that bothered you?)

Hi Julie,

I like the both. They are two different paintings, and two different moods. Both are great.

hi julie - i prefer this one. without the yellow, my eye is attracted to shapes: the triangular shape of the sky and the reversed shape of the foreground -- with both pointing to the field just beyond the barn. that's the spot i'd choose for a picnic! both are great! m

I'm late on this, but my vote is for the first one. Assuming this is a Texas landscape, I find the yellow ground more convincing and it tells me a lot about where this might be.

Glad you had a busy and rewarding birthday. 40? I would have guessed 30, tops.

I guess everyone has a different perspective. I like them both, however, the loose brushstrokes and greater contrast in the original, create a little more interest and energy for me. A belated Happy Birthday!
After 40 is when all the fun starts! Really!

Hi, Julie...I vote for the original...I love the heat generated by the yellow-green....summer in Texas is, well, really hot. I am looking forward to following your blog. We met at the Carol Marine workshop at Andreeva...I am just now learning about this blogging business, but I am happy to have a way to follow your work. Happy Painting!
