Study 4 and hazards of plein air painting

Study 4 "Before", 6 x 8 in.
Christensen Workshop

Tuesday evening after class, several of us went out to paint in an aspen grove--to study what we'd be painting the next day. I did two small studies--I was pretty happy with this one--a little foreshadowing. The next morning we were painting in the same spot, so I had it out for reference--on the ground behind me against my backpack--admittedly not the best spot! As I put the last mark--literally--on my morning study, I backed up to look at it, and yep.....stepped right in the center of my happy little study! :

"After," 6 x 8 in.

Needless to say, I spent the next forty-five minutes in repair mode! (Lesson: never get too happy with something because it can disappear in an instant!!) It did have a nice abstract quality to it....

But I'm sure you did a very good job repairing this one O:-) I like the composition very much.

OH NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!

I've not done THAT... but I've dropped them in the sand, piles of leaves, had them blow down and into my palette of paint....

YEP yep yep... one can never get too satisfied with our work... Besides... aren't they all "studies"??? ( I MUST do a better job of internalizing that concept. )

I hate it when that happens! It is/was a nice study and thanks so much for the Flow link. It's good to see your work again!

I love the painting Julie, and that's not the lesson. Too sad. There's a very funny video on the show The Madness of Art on a fellow trying to repair a painting he's damaged. It isn't his painting, and of course he wrecks it and it gets the highest price of anything in the artist's auction. Don't be too hard on yourself. Look up the Madness of Art on You Tube, and have a laugh.

Love your work.

oh, this is painful... the muscle memory of that happy little study is still there (and you do have the photo memory, but still...) It really was a happy little painting.
