Still Useful

Still Useful, 10 x 8

Old barns and country roads appeal to the die-hard Texan in me. I can't help it. I love the blues in the weathered gray wood and the funny ways the abandoned barns lean--the roads often inexplicably curve and bend on their routes. No doubt there was at one time a reason they veered this way or that.

Stunning...that barn has a lot of character (I love the slight lean)!

Your brushwork is to die for.

All right Julie, I have decided we must be sisters...rural landscapes, Texas, winding paths, and now barns! In addition to the weathered gray wood, I love the rusted metal roofs, as well. Once again a beautiful painting that holds a great story in that old barn.

Hi Julie, there is such peace and rural simplicity in this composition. The format of 10 X 8 works well for this subject.

Nice work! At first I thought the road was a stream. It reminded me of a scene from Montana where a fly fishing stream passed within view of an old barn.

Angela, I get the same feeling when I visit your blog! Thank you for your kind words.

Carolyn, thank you. I struggled for what seemed like so long with my brushwork in my first two years of painting, so it's nice to hear comments like yours.

And Kerri, a "stunning" from you makes my day!

Marie--peace and simplicity is just what I'm after in this one; I appreciate the thoughtful comments.

Old barns are a big part of any Ontario rural landscape, and so are curvy roads. I love this painting.

Wonderful warm palette in this and the post below. Love that cool blue/gray next to the buttery gold and that trickle of magenta on the edge of the road. Delicious!
