Morning by the River

I had a few minutes Saturday morning to play with a photo I'd taken years ago in a park here in Austin. I love the light in it, and though I painted this same view back in 2010 when I'd been painting just a couple of years, I felt enough time had passed that another attempt would be free from any vivid memories of the first try. Not that the first try was a bad memory at all, I just wanted it to feel more like a case of first impression.  And thankfully, it did. :)

The Guadalupe River runs through the Kerrville area, and it's north fork runs through nearby Hunt, Texas.  On the last day of KOPE, I painted along the banks of the Guadalupe on our own property in Hunt.  This partially shaded passage through the fence is where the whitetail and axis deer cut through on their way along the banks.

Tree-lined Riverfront

Tree-lined Riverfront- study, 6 x 8

This is the view from our porch in Hunt. Endless trees line the riverfront--pecans, walnut, oaks--all kinds--literally line the frontage forever. It's a plain composition, and so much so that I hesitate to paint it--"never paint trees in a line" goes through my head. But it's what I see so often in my favorite spot--couldn't help it.

Golden Banks

This is the last of the pieces I did before I began framing this week. I hope to get back to painting this weekend, but as Thanksgiving approaches, my do-to list outside the painting realm grows exponentially. We'll see. I aim to have my show pieces ready so I'll just have last minute duties to check off my list after Thanksgiving.
