Austin was hopping this weekend with the ACL (Austin City Limits) Music Festival. The weather was unbelievable --it just couldn't be better here right now. Perfect for plein air painting, too. :) This piece is a larger version of the painting I posted on September 21. I'm creating some larger works for a show I'll be a part of at Wendow in Austin starting December 1.

This morning I met some painting friends out at the Bull Creek Greenbelt. The creek was full and rushing with water, the cottonwoods were bright green, and the weather was amazing. Thanks to my pals for getting me out there today!

Hints of spring are creeping into the landscape around Austin--huge amounts of spring greens jumped into this painting. I must be ready.

Working with the same palette here of my black mix, cad yellow, and white. It works for the gray days or mornings when the light is not over the treetops yet. This path winds along Lost Creek here in Austin.

HIllside Gathering

Another limited palette exercise, this time using various combinations of orange (aliz. crimson and cad yellow), green (ult. blue and cad yellow), and deep purple (ult. blue and aliz. crimson). Our class met last Wednesday in a park on Lake Austin--I thought I'd forgo the water and focus on a clump of trees. Unfortunately, I had a sick one at home so I didn't get to stay to paint en plein air, but I did a sketch, took some photos, and went straight home and painted.
