Still Life study

Lime and Tomatoes On the Vine
6 x 8 in., oil on panel

I love a still life once in a while. Especially when they involve red. Red appeals in a painting, and it's rarely found in a landscape with this intensity, so it's quite fun to use it once in a while like this. I was trying to work out some of the rust, get out of the box a little, and just play with this. Did a bit of all three.

Why Me?

Why Me?, 8 x 10

I messed around today with high contrast in the background--this is supposed to be a white napkin on a black table....doesn't it feel a bit like the bowl, napkin, and knife are floating in space?! I didn't think so until I saw it in photograph form. Don't you think it's a perspective issue, rather than the contrast? The downfalls of a fast painting! I at least like the title my 11 year-old came up with...

Headed for the Dinner Table

Hanging Out, 6 x 6

First, sorry if anyone subscribing to my blog received more than one email from me last night--I'm still not sure what happened; I thought it was still a draft, so I hit the publish button again and ended up with not one, but three emails in my own inbox. Second, a huge thank you for all the kind words about the tulips! I hope I can achieve flowers like that again soon--it's very satisfying to feel like I'm getting the hang of them. Third......I love the color combination of this painting--there is something very calming about this orange and this blue--and these heirlooms don't have much of a future, I'm afraid--they're headed to the dinner table tonight!
