Old Farmhouse

Old Farmhouse, 6 x 8

A great deal of what draws me to paint landscapes is the history that is woven into much of the land in which we live daily. Many farms have old outbuildings, barns, and even farmhouses that now sit abandoned. I'm always excited to find them and can't help but ponder what went on in them when they were full of life.

Julie, you do this so well. You really captured the character of this old home.

Julie,
I totally agree with you. I love all the history also- feels like if the barns could talk we would learn something! This is really beautiful.

I always wonder what old houses have lived and seen? The painting gives the feeling there is more to tell. Beautiful greens in the trees.

This is a beaut Julie, I love the juicy painterly approach.

Love it, Julie. The pallet knife work makes the whole scene look 3-dimensional.

As a fire fighter who served on 3 departments, it was always sad to see a home go up in flames. I realized that house was someone's home, their dreams, and depending on length of their stay, a portion of their lives. As an artist, I continue to feel the same way when I see a deserted house.

Love your work! Thanks for sharing

Hi Julie,

This is so wonderful. I love thick impasto trees. Superb. In Nova Scotia there are so many old abandoned buildings like this. I always wish I could save them.
