Freshly Cut Hay, 8 x 10
sold
I haven't posted in several days for lack of time, not lack of painting. I was fortunate enough to get to go to Granbury, Texas this weekend with Plein Air Austin for an entire weekend of painting -- I can't even quantify how fantastic an experience it was. I tagged along with Laurel Daniel, and we were up early and late painting as much as we could of the Granbury countryside. This was a spot on our way to Granbury between Briggs and Lampasas, where the hay was so freshly cut it caught our eyes immediately, and we had to pull over and paint. I'll post the other paintings I did in order over the next several days--a few I'm going to submit to a Plein Air Austin show this summer here in town.

Julie, This is beautiful. The linear progression of the hay bales gives the picture really nice movement, while the cool shadow at the bottom of the closest bale helps give the eye an inviting place to settle. I also love the loose rendering and blue hue of the distant tree line. Wonderful job.
My dogs would love to romp in this painting...all that green grass and hay to play with! I like the layout of the hay bales too!
Julie, you have really captured the LOOK, don't you love these fields of hay bales! Such an ease of brushstrokes and with such fluid paint.
Great color and wonderful sense of depth in this one. I wonder if we could ever find our way back there? Ah... forever in our memories! :)
Wonderful highlights on the hay bales.
Hi Julie,
This is just delicious. The colour is so gorgeous. Superb.

You've really captured the atmosphere here. I really love the touch of red undertones towards the front, it really gives depth to all those greens.
This is stunning! 'Sounds like I missed a good time. Can't wait to see your other paintings!
This takes me back to my childhood growing up in the midwest countryside. I can hear all the lovely country summer sounds.
Thanks, everyone. It was a lovely place to paint, and I debated a while over composition (lots of hay bales to choose from)!
Sounds like a great experience, Julie. What a beautiful spot. Incredible painting. Your work is so fresh and spontaneous and glowing. Love it!
Outstanding! I can smell the freshly cut grass and I especially like the red peeking out from behind the beautiful cool greens.
that "austin contingent" is something. davis, daniel, cheers.
whats in the water down there? LOL
That's quite a compliment to be grouped with those two, Mike. Many thanks....I drink as much of the water as I can! :)
